This, being my first entry ever, might be a bit general. It is my goal that my blog challenge current mainstream accepted biases and that it be thought provoking, interesting and honest. I am a thinker, a ponderer, maybe even a dweller, by nature. I love sociology, psychology (especially jungian), architecture and history (including how it might repeat itself in the the future). I live in one of the most apolitical cities in the nation, Los Angeles, where most people are not very opinionated regarding politics or intellectual ideas. One of my friends from the east coast said she was shocked at how slow and pleasant everyone seems. She said she kept firing zingers (humor, sarcasm, irony) at the Angelenos and they just smiled and nodded. But an entire population cannot be stupid. I think it's just that they are not dogmatic. The culture here is a corporate one, based on production and consumption. We can agree on what to wear, what to drive, what cell phone we must have and we can leave politics to the privacy of our own minds. We are free to think and talk about what could be considered politically incendiary topics without prejudice because our political bent does not define us. People say the "craziest" things when they aren't being brainwashed and strong armed. Ideas flow. This is very different from my experience growing up on the east coast where political correctness was drilled into us at such an early age that even rebellious teens did not breech the norms. So, what is it to think for onesself? I'm hoping we can take a stab at honest expression here at capitalist punk dot com. I have a few rules of engagement. Say what you want here. Dig down deep to figure out what you think and feel and then express yourself. Call me out. Call others out. But try your best to do it intelligently rather than by attacking someone personally. Be smart. Be inventive. Be great.
